Andre Gomes Everton exit to open £15m gateway for Atletico striker Matheus Cunha
A striker is certainly on the agenda for Everton when the January transfer window opens as Frank Lampard looks to drag his side away from the bottom three.
Neal Maupay has been a disappointing addition and Dominic Calvert-Lewin has yet again struggled with injuries during the 2022/23 season. The Englishman’s unreliable record is now really starting to hamper anything good which could be achieved at Goodison Park.
Therefore, another forward simply has to be at the top of Lampard’s list, and the latest name to be linked with a move to Goodison Park is Atletico Madrid’s 23-year-old forward, Matheus Cunha. 90min (5 December) reported that the Toffees were interested in a potential loan to buy move for the Brazilian, who has failed to live up to expectations in the Spanish capital.

Wolves are said to be leading the race for Cunha, with Atletico happy for the striker to depart after a lack of gametime. Leeds have also been linked, and it’s been suggested he could be available for £15million (Phil Hay, 6 December).
Finances are obviously an issue for Everton at the moment, with Farhad Moshiri looking to avoid repeating previous mistakes. Therefore, the board at Goodison Park should be looking to wheel and deal and after Andre Gomes’ performance’s at Lille, there’s a chance for the Toffees to make a quick buck.

Le11 suggest (6 December) the midfielder is in “outstanding” form at the moment, and it’s clear the Ligue 1 side will be eager to get a deal over the line.
This is a golden opportunity for the Toffees to raise some funds to get a striker through the door at Goodison Park. Gomes is not a priority for the club, and there was always a feeling his time on Merseyside had reached its conclusion.
Moshiri, Lampard and Kevin Thelwell must use this chance to finally solve the Toffees’ attacking issues.
