Anthony Gordon will not leave Everton in January, Spurs may pop up for summer transfer

Daily Star journalist Paul Brown has insisted that Spurs’ interest for Everton star Anthony Gordon may pop up again in the summer, with little chance of a January exit.

Spurs have been linked with a move for the England Under-21 international and are reportedly lining up a bid for the Evertonian in the January transfer window.

Gordon was the centre of a transfer frenzy in the summer, which saw a bid of £60million from Chelsea rejected, with the Liverpool-born academy product remaining on Merseyside for the 2022/23 season.

Antonio Conte is now looking to test the Toffees’ resolve on the winger once more, but Brown believes Spurs will have to wait till the summer transfer window if they want their man.

He told GiveMeSport: “The only thing that’s changed is that Chelsea may have moved on and Gordon’s form has gone off the edge of a cliff.

“I don’t think that’s something that can’t be corrected and I think there is still interest from Spurs.

“They wouldn’t pay what Chelsea were willing to pay, so it’s really whether Everton were to accept much less.

“So, I think it’s very unlikely he leaves in January but in the summer, you might see this come back up.”

Good news

Everton fans would have been wary of Gordon being lured away from Goodison Park in January and subsequently affecting their troubled-looking season.

Sitting just a point above the relegation zone and struggling to find the back of the net regularly, Gordon will be a pivotal figure in Frank Lampard’s plans for the remainder of the season.

If the Toffees were to lose the winger in January, it would likely be for a cut-price figure after the Englishman has experienced a tough start to the campaign.

However, if Lampard can get the attacker fully firing once again, Everton can still get the lofty price tag they want for their star asset and, consequently, reinvest in their paper-thin squad.

Gordon will inevitably move on to a top-six club in the near future, but losing him in January would come as a hammer blow to the whole club.

A Toffee through and through, fans will hope Gordon can stay loyal to the club and fire the side away from the relegation zone in the coming months.
