Everton midfielder Tom Davies could be back in weeks as he takes training outside

Everton midfielder Tom Davies has taken part in fitness drills outside the gym in a new injury boost for Frank Lampard this week, as reported by Liverpool Echo.

The midfielder suffered a knee injury during a training session in Sydney before the game against Celtic.

It was thought that he could be out for months, and the setback would be a severe one. He returned to the UK and the scans revealed that his injury is not serious as previously suspected.

The 24-year-old has started light training on Friday [9 December] and it won’t be long before he returns to action.

Big few months

A product of the club youth academy, Davies has made 167 appearances for the Toffees in all competitions since making his debut in 2015.

He is a classy central midfielder who has the ability to take the ball forward and pick smart passes.

However, in recent years, his progress has halted a bit and he has struggled to reach the heights as per expectations.

The next few months are absolutely vital for him. He has a contract at the club until 2023, and it is unclear whether Lampard will offer him a new deal.

Davies has made only three starts in the Premier League this season, and a further four have come from the bench.

After he returns to full fitness, he will have to prove to Lampard that he deserves a new contract and that he can be a valuable asset.

The problem is Alex Iwobi has been used as a central midfielder by Lampard, and he has been superb in recent months.

Let’s hope he can recover quickly and fight for his place at Goodison Park.
