Everton target attackers in January as Frank Lampard reveals plans

Everton will look to bring in more attacking impetus when the January transfer window opens with depth a major concern for the Toffees.

Frank Lampard had to splash the cash to sign Neal Maupay from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer after Dominic Calvert-Lewin suffered yet another injury early in the campaign.

But even though he is now back fit again, the Everton boss still wants more from his whole attacking department which may also see wingers brought in.

“I think we have to react because it’s the Premier League and it’s crucial that we look at us, now,” he said to the Liverpool Echo.

“We can see that we haven’t had enough threat at the top end of the pitch in recent weeks. Some of that has to be borne in us, me and the players, and whether we can be better.

“The reality is we will try and do the business that we can with an understanding of what we want to do – we want to help the squad in attacking areas, that is clearly the area that we want to help as a priority.”

Quick moves

The scouting and analytical work should have already been done ahead of the January window so the Toffees can go ahead and start making moves as soon as the clock strikes 12 on 1 January 2023.

Kevin Thelwell should have a list of players and the order in which Lampard wants them so his job is now a simple one of trying to convince players to the club and getting the best deal possible.

Money may become an issue if there are several new signings in the winter window, as there was last year, which is why the priority players have to come first ahead of any luxury purchase.

It’s no secret that the attacking output has not been good enough from Everton this season with even Anthony Gordon not hitting the heights anybody expected of him.

A winger may even be more important than a striker because everybody knows how good Calvert-Lewin can be when he is fit and in form and no striker would keep him out of the side for long.
