William Gallas slams Everton star Jordan Pickford who ‘should do better’ after what he saw at World Cup
William Gallas believes that Everton star Jordan Pickford “should do better” for France’s first goal in their 2-1 win over England at the World Cup.
The Toffees stopper started in goal for each of the Three Lions’ five games at the World Cup, keeping three clean sheets in the process prior to their quarter-final elimination against the reigning champions.
But after conceding a long-range strike in that final game to Aurelien Tchouameni, former France defender Gallas told Genting Casino (13 December) that he should’ve saved it.

“If you look at the goals England conceded, Pickford should do better on the first goal,” he said.
“Tchouameni scored from a long way out and he was too slow to react to the shot.”
Harsh
There seems to be a lot of people calling Pickford out for conceding this goal, and nobody criticising the defence or midfield for letting Tchouameni shoot from that distance to begin with.
Pickford had a crowded edge of the box in front of him and it meant that he saw the ball late, which stopped him from getting a touch on it and tipping the ball wide of the post.
But there is so much that happens between that moment and the final result that the criticism of him seems overly harsh, especially after the tourament he had.
Pickford managed three clean sheets in the five games at the World Cup, off the back of what has been an excellent season for himself personally at Everton so far.
Now he’ll return to Goodison Park to help the club move away from a relegation battle and look to put this behind him, to show everyone how good he has been and how good he is.
