Everton can blow Napoli out of water in transfer race for Rodrigo Becao

Everton can blow Napoli out of the water in the transfer pursuit of Udinese defender Rodrigo Becao, according to Tuttoudinese.

The Brazilian’s current Udinese contract expires in June 2024 which could allow the Blues to make a savvy attempt to sign him in January.

The report claims that a £17m fee will be needed to prize Becao away from Udinese, something that gives Everton an advantage over cash-strapped Napoli, who are also looking at the defender.

“Everton continue to follow Rodrigo Becao closely,” as quoted by tuttoudinese.

“The Pozzo’s have set the price: €20million will be needed to take him away from Udine as early as January.

“A figure that the Toffees could put on the plate, much more than Napoli which, on the other hand, does not seem willing to invest such an important sum. If the right offer arrives, the Bianconeri could say yes.”

Does it make sense?

With Yerry Mina or Michael Keane likely to leave Goodison Park in January, a move for the talented centre-back could prompt the Blues into making a move.

But the £17m price tag being fronted up by Udinese may be the stumbling block in this transfer saga, do the Blues want to cough that up for a backup centre back?

Conor Coady and James Tarkowski are pretty settled in the heart of Lampard’s Everton defence and it’s hard to see any player coming in and taking their place.

Priorities for the Toffees in January have to be for a centre-forward and wide attacker, the defence is arguably the least problematic area in the squad right now.

It may be a risk relying heavily on Coady and Tarkowski to keep fit but keeping one of Keane or Mina at the club, eliminates some worries that Lampard may have.

Getting things sorted up top has to be the first point of call in January, once this is done, Everton can start looking to strengthen in other areas of the pitch.
