Andros Townsend to be a factor in solving Everton firepower problems – Kevin Campbell
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Andros Townsend has an Everton future and can be part of the solution to the problems in attack, according to Kevin Campbell.
The former Crystal Palace winger has been out injured for nine months since tearing his cruciate ligament against his previous club in the FA Cup last season (20 March) but is finally nearing a return [Everton YouTube, 5 November].
Despite the turnover in the squad since he last played in a Toffees shirt, former captain Campbell is sure there is a role for 31-year-old, especially at a time when goals are at more of a premium than ever.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News he said: “I think he’s got an Everton future, he’s just been injured.
“There was nothing he could have done. It was a real tough injury for him.
“But the proof is in the pudding and he’s got to come back. One thing he can do, even if he doesn’t score worldie goals, he can create.
“That’s one thing that Everton have been lacking and they need more firepower so he’s another person who can come in and help.”

Seven goals and four assists in less than a full season last year was a decent return for the free transfer acquisition by Rafael Benitez.
Frank Lampard is sure to give Townsend the opportunity to help turn around an attack that has drawn a blank in five of the past six Premier League outings.
His contract is up at the end of the season, and he appears to have a punditry and commentary career lined up when he stops playing, but if he is available again soon he has time to earn a new contract yet.
