Atletico Madrid ‘desperate’ to offload Matheus Cunha as Everton lurk, loan move on the cards
Atletico Madrid are keen to offload Everton target Matheus Cunha in January and are considering sanctioning a loan move according to 90Min.
Frank Lampard is eager to bring more attacking reinforcements to Goodison Park over January, and 23-year-old Cunha would be a solid addition to the Toffees dressing room.
According to 90Min, Everton have already been in contact with Cunha’s representatives over a move, with Wolves, Aston Villa and Leeds United also making a move.

On top of that, the Toffees face competition from Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle United – who have all been offered Cunha’s services by his entourage.
The report adds that Atletico Madrid are “desperate” to offload Cunha’s wages, so much so that they’re considering sanctioning a loan move for the Brazilian striker.
All-in
If Everton are to secure Cunha’s signature next month, they’ll have to fend off a handful of other clubs. There’s already concrete interest from Wolves, Villa and Leeds – all of which can be considered relegation rivals this season.
Losing out on Cunha to a direct rival would be a major blow, so if Everton are set on signing the 23-year-old then they need to commit every resource possible to make it happen.

All four clubs in question are desperate to bring in a striker over January and will likely be battling each other for other centre-forwards over the next few weeks. Making sure Everton end up with one of Lampard’s top targets is essential.
Whether it be an initial loan deal or an immediate permanent move, Cunha would give Lampard another option up top in an Everton side desperately lacking goals.
Neal Maupay hasn’t hit the ground running as much as Lampard would have hoped and Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury issues make him too unreliable. Richarlison’s goals still haven’t been replaced and that’s what Cunha would be expected to cover.
