Sky Sports pundit backs Everton to go after Udinese target man Beto with Dominic Calvert-Lewin out
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Beto “could really help” in attack for Everton because he fits a similar physical profile to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, says Kevin Campbell.
The Toffees’ main striker is out with injury once again and the club are struggling badly for goals, but La Gazzetta dello Sport reported on 22 September that scouts had been sent to watch the Udinese forward, with Calcio Mercato putting them in a four-way race for a winter move on 28 November.
Sky Sports pundit Campbell is encouraged by the pursuit of the six foot four inch Portuguese because his style of play can replace Calvert-Lewin better than Neal Maupay.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News he said: “Everton need somebody robust up the top end of the pitch.
“Dominic Calvert-Lewin, when he’s fit and flying, is that guy but the problem is he hasn’t been able to keep himself fit.
“To get the best out of some of the players [you need that].
“Neal Maupay’s not a target man but there’s times when he’s had to play up top on his own, which isn’t fair to him because he’s not that type of striker.
“So I think a Beto, somebody with physical presence, big, who they can cross it to, could really help the team.”

Beto has 17 goals in the past season and a half in Serie A and has the height that Maupay doesn’t, so would give the likes of Dwight McNeil, Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend, when he returns, a good crossing target.
Salomon Rondon was supposed to fulfil that role but hasn’t proven anywhere close to being able to find the net frequently enough and is likely to be on his way.
Reinforcements are definitely needed in January and the 24-year-old looks like he fits the bill so if Everton can get ahead of the competitors he makes a lot of sense.
