Everton sign off on three January arrivals as backroom appointments to be announced soon

Everton are set to announce three new backroom appointments at the start of 2023 as Kevin Thelwell continues his “major” behind-the-scenes revolution, according to iNews.

Thelwell’s Goodison Park overhaul continued in September with Carl Darlington being named the Toffees’ new head of academy coaching (20 September).

Further changes are set to occur in the early part of 2023 with INews revealing (21 September) that three “key” appointments have been signed off.

It’s understood a new head of recruitment, head of emerging talent and head of performance analysis and insights will all arrive at Goodison Park.

Promising

A lot of the work Thelwell is currently undertaking will not reap short-term rewards. However, the changes in the backroom staff will make a big difference for Everton in the longer term.

A new head of recruitment is an absolute must for the Toffees, with too many players being well below the standards required to take the club to where it needs to be. Furthermore, changes in the academy will hopefully see more youngsters break into the first team in the coming years and provide Everton with a constant stream of potential revenue.

Everton

For too long, the club has stagnated in a cycle of signing overpaid and underperforming players and it’s good to see more rational thinking from the decision-makers at Goodison Park.

Thelwell was successful during his time at Wolverhampton Wanderers and the signs are certainly positive as he closes in on his year anniversary on Merseyside, with the upcoming announcements further proof that the director of football is trying to get the club moving in the right direction.
