Frank Lampard issues contract update on Everton duo Alex Iwobi and Anthony Gordon

Frank Lampard has confirmed that in-form midfielder Alex Iwobi is now closing in on signing a new contract at Everton.

Ahead of the game v Wolves on Boxing Day, Lampard also said the same thing about Anthony Gordon, both of whom have been in talks with the club.

While Gordon has not had the best of starts this season, Iwobi has found a new lease of life playing in a number eight position for the Toffees.

Lampard said, via Liverpool Echo’s Joe Thomas on Twitter, “First Q: Contract talks on Iwobi, Pickford, Gordon: How close are you to agreements? Frank: ‘Close’.”

Great news

The club rejected many offers for Gordon in the summer when there was a feeling that they could’ve got big money for his services.

It was clear that Lampard rates the youngster a great deal but it’s now time for the player to reward the faith his manager has shown in him.

As for Iwobi, it does not look like he’s been happier playing his football anywhere else as he has this season at Goodison Park.

He’s looking the real deal and not a player who only impresses in training and lets the side down on matchdays – as was the case with him earlier.

Fans love him and we’re sure that his teammates will also be impressed by just how crucial a part he is of the senior setup.

In October, after Everton thumped Crystal Palace 3-0, Sky Sports’ Iain Dowie was also stunned by the Nigeria international’s performances and labelled him “outstanding”.

We’re hoping that he reaches even greater heights once he officially signs the contract.
