Alex Iwobi signing new contract at Everton would be ‘absolutely massive’
Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi putting pen to paper and signing a new contract would be “absolutely massive” for Frank Lampard, according to journalist Simon Phillips.
The 26-year-old has undertaken a huge transformation at Goodison Park since moving into his newfound midfield role and looks set to be rewarded for his efforts with a fresh contract at the club.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano backed up these recent claims, stating the “final details” of his contract were now being sorted by the club. [Here We Go Podcast]

And according to Phillips, getting the Nigerian international to sign a new long-term contract could prove a pivotal piece of business, as Everton look to strengthen in several areas during the January transfer window.
When asked about the impact the deal could have, Phillips told GiveMeSport: “Absolutely massive. He’s been colossal for them since Lampard came in, he’s really stepped up, and he’s really transformed his game.
“And I think that has been off the back of Lampard’s man management with him. He sees him as the go-to man on and off the field, and he’s been a very reliable player for Lampard.”

Deserved
The improvement that Iwobi has undertaken at Goodison Park is nothing short of miraculous. Starting off as an energetic but ultimately flawed winger, the Nigerian initially struggled to adapt to his surroundings on Merseyside following his £35 million move in 2019.
But much like Joelinton at Newcastle United, Lampard saw a quality in Iwobi that few others had realised, and playing him as a box-to-box midfielder has reignited his career.
This season, the midfielder has arguably been the Toffees’ best player, combining his powerful running with an extra bite in defence. He has forged a strong partnership with Amadou Onana in the middle of the park, and Everton fans will be wishing he stays at the club for a number of years to come.
Across all competitions this season, Iwobi has registered one goal and six assists which has subsequently left him as one of the first names on Lampard’s teamsheet in the Premier League.
