Andros Townsend may not play another Everton game after what Frank Lampard said

Frank Lampard confirmed on 23 December that Andros Townsend had suffered another setback and is still some way from returning for Everton.

The English winger has not featured for the Toffees this season and the assumption was that he would be fit in the coming days.

However, Lampard has said that it’s not going to happen, and that puts serious doubts over his future at Goodison Park.

He said via the Liverpool Echo, “I feel bad for him, his professionalism in trying to get fit has been a big deal in a positive sense and we will keep working with him. We were looking at January, it will be a hard call for him to be fit in January at this point.”

The 31-year-old moved to Goodison Park in 2021 but has barely featured for the side due to his unavailability and the fact that there were better players at the club.

We were baffled as to why the Toffees even signed him in the first place as he was clearly past his best and was declining rapidly.

Even Newcastle, no longer wanted to do anything with him and that was a clear indicator that Everton should not have been in pursuit of his services.

However, due to Rafa Benitez and FFP constraints, they ended up making a move for him and it’s clearly not been the best of deals.

He came on a free transfer so there’ll be no hard feelings, but he did take up a significant chunk of the club’s wages and is still on their payroll without training or being available for selection.

It seems like he’s played his last game for Everton and we would be really surprised to see him donning the blue jersey.
