Everton demise under Frank Lampard made clear by official Premier League tweet

The last calendar year has certainly not been kind to Everton after narrowly avoiding relegation at the end of the 2021/22 season.

Frank Lampard has had periods of impressive form whilst being at the club, but the jury is still very much out on whether he is the right man to lead the Toffees forward.

Before the poor results against Leicester and Bournemouth, the former Chelsea boss had plenty of credit in the bank at Goodison Park. However, a Premier League statistic how displayed how the Toffees have now gone backwards under the 44-year-old.

The Premier League’s official Twitter account revealed (24 December) the league table at the same time last year and it’s not good reading for Evertonians. The Toffees sat 14th with four more points to their name and it sadly shows the team haven’t progressed under Lampard.

Newspaper journalist Alan Nixon suggested (Patreon, 13 November) that Everton’s board were concerned with the Toffees’ form and that Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou was in the frame to replace the former Derby boss. January promises to be a massive month for the Toffees, with there being a desperate need for more firepower to come through the door at Goodison Park.

Failure to strengthen in certain areas could leave Everton staring another relegation battle square in the face. Furthermore, it will be interesting to see if the Toffees adequately back Lampard in January. The board may well be reluctant to give the Everton boss extra funds, with there still potentially being question marks over his future.
