Everton right to avoid expensive risk transfer of Matheus Cunha
Everton have done well to avoid the transfer of Brazil international forward Matheus Cunha, according to Liverpool Echo journalist Joe Thomas.
Cunha has completed a move to Premier League rivals Wolves instead, despite there being numerous links with the Blues making a move for the South American.
Nevertheless, Thomas confessed that Cunha would have been an “expensive mistake” and Everton will not make any long-term progress without turning away from deals like that.

“He could turn out to be a great signing but that is some commitment given his record,” said Thomas in response to a fan on Twitter.
“Everton don’t make long-term progress without turning away from that kind of expensive risk. Need to business in January but not at any price.”

Not wrong.
Everton have definitely dodged a bullet with this one, Cunha hasn’t looked great at all since he joined Atletico Madrid and he may have struggled at Goodison Park too.
It will be interesting still to see how he performs at Wolves but the Blues will get a clear view of whether or not avoiding a move for Cunha was the right one to make.
The Blues have made many transfer mistakes in the past and Cunha could have potentially joined the long list of underperforming talents on a massive wage bill.
With luck, it seems like the Toffees have finally learnt from their recurring mistake and this will only help them move forward and progress as a team.
There are plenty more targets out there on the market for Everton to now exploit but finding the right one for here and now is their biggest problem.
January promises to be a massive month for Frank Lampard and Everton, it’s time to get the club back on track.
