Frank Lampard Everton sack view issued after Premier League defeat v Wolves

Dean Saunders believes that Everton will stick with Frank Lampard and not decide to sack him after the loss against Wolves on Boxing Day.

The Toffees took the lead, but ended up giving it away and saw Wolves winning the contest by a 2-1 scoreline at Goodison Park.

With the defeat, the Toffees are just two points away from 20th and that’s an awful league position to be in with the club set for another relegation fight.

Everton

Saunders told talkSPORT, “Obviously Frank Lampard is in big trouble but I wouldn’t sack him no matter what. He’s trying to get this team on the right track.

“They’ve missed chances today, they should’ve won. The cutting edge is not there.”

“They can’t keep changing managers,” Saunders added. “It’s just ridiculous, they’ve got to give someone a chance to repair the damage that’s been done.

“Frank Lampard knows he’s got to get it right and he will.”

Makes sense

If Everton had to sack Lampard, they would’ve done it before the World Cup break so the new manager would get time with the players.

However, they decided to back him and will not make a decision after just one defeat.

The January window is coming and he’ll definitely expect to be backed as this squad is nowhere near good enough if they are to turn things around.

We do feel bad for Lampard, but he’s also got to prove his worth and make some changes that ruffle a few feathers in order to get the right results.

Nathan Patterson put in an “absolutely terrible” performance against Wolves and it remains to be seen if he’s axed from the playing eleven v Manchester City.

These are the calls Lampard has to get right and it’s not an easy job but he knew the pressure of taking it up before joining.
