Everton cannot rely on current squad as relegation rears its ugly head again

Everton cannot rely on their current squad after another damning defeat saw the Blues lose in the last minute to Wolves on 26 December.

The Toffees looked promising for large amounts of the game but yet again they were let down by their lack of poaching prowess in the final third.

Liverpool Echo journalist Joe Thomas confessed that the game was another “brutal” reminder of relegation and Frank Lampard cannot trust the options he currently has.

“Everton have a huge problem and biggest cheer of second half against Wolves shows it,” said Thomas on Twitter.

“A chastening match verdict to write but reality is Everton cannot rely on the squad as it is. Serious work is needed to avoid relegation. This was a brutal reminder of that.”

Everton

Sorry state.

In a fixture that needed a big performance and result, the Blues yet again suffered a catastrophic loss, one that will send real warnings through Goodison Park.

Everton looked fairly solid defensively throughout the game but again their lack of attacking efforts and a clear inability to finish off games cost them three points.

Where next for the Toffees? Well, firstly, they must invest in their poor squad in January, this is the only way they save themselves from relegation.

It’s simply that serious of a situation right now and without incomings at Goodison Park, the team will only suffer more damning defeats.

Lampard needs to be backed fully and given a real chance to get this Everton side competing because at the moment, they are way off the levels needed to be a top-half Premier League side.

The last thing anyone wants is another relegation fight, nevertheless, if this kind of form continues the Blues will be right amongst it at the bottom of the league.
