Everton boss Frank Lampard may drop Nathan Patterson v Manchester City after Wolves display

Frank Lampard could decide to axe Nathan Patterson for the Everton clash against Manchester City after his Wolves performance.

The Toffees lost to their fellow relegation rivals by a 2-1 scoreline on Boxing Day in front of their fans at Goodison Park.

Facing Manchester City on New Year’s Eve is going to be a different challenge altogether and we do see Seamus Coleman doing a better job as Patterson had a game worth forgetting.

Patterson played as the right-back v Wolves and was tasked to get forward as much as possible and try to make things happen in the final third.

However, he did not complete one of his six attempted crosses which is not an impressive sight for an attacking full-back at Everton or any club.

He also lost possession on 17 occasions and managed to complete just one of his four long balls throughout the game.

His decision-making also came into question on several occasions and he picked up a yellow card for his recklessness.

Football scout Ryan Williams did not mince his words as he took to Twitter to write, “Patterson has been absolutely terrible. Mind boggling, really. Hesitant all over the pitch. Bad decisions.”

City will certainly have a field day against Patterson and that’s not a criticism of him, it’s just at 21, he does need a run of games to regain his confidence and playing against Pep Guardiola’s side may not achieve it.

If Lampard does not trust Coleman, he could even play Ben Godfrey as a right-back and ask him to play a more defensive role in order to deal with the threat of Phil Foden.
