Everton to gamble on Brereton Diaz or Gyokeres as strongest transfer links emerge
Everton are looking to bolster their forward line in the January window and Ben Brereton Diaz and Viktor Gyokeres are emerging as “strongest links”, as reported by Dean Jones.
The former Bleacher Report journalist suggests that both the strikers have got “good goalscoring instincts” but they are not guaranteed to step up in the Premier League.
The Toffees are long-term admirers of Diaz, but they are likely to face intense competition for the Chilean forward who has only six months left on his current deal.

TalkSPORT reported on 28 December the Toffees are also interested in signing Gyokeres from Coventry City, but it will require a fee of around £20 million to lure him away.
“At the moment, the strongest links are to Brereton Diaz or Gyokeres at Coventry,” said Jones to Give Me Sport.
“And that level of signing, yes, those players have got a lot to prove, so will have a lot of drive, have good goalscoring instincts, but they’re not guaranteed to step up and deliver. And that’s probably the biggest gamble when going for players like that.”
Worth taking?
The Toffees are desperate to add depth to their attacking options in January.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin once again has struggled to remain fit so far this season, while summer signing Neal Maupay has failed to hit the ground running since his move from Brighton.
Gyokeres has been in terrific form in the Championship. The 24-year-old striker has netted 12 goals from 23 appearances, and several Premier League clubs including the Toffees are vying for his signature.

He scored 17 goals last term and has carried the same form this season as well. The Swedish striker appears to be a potent goalscorer, and definitely, he’s worth taking the risk.
Diaz scored 22 goals last season and he has looked in great touch in the present campaign as well.
He has scored 10 goals so far and could be a smart signing for the club.
Given the dire situation Everton are in, the signings of Gyokeres and Diaz could prove to be a masterstroke.
