Frank Lampard in trouble at Everton but job is tough for anyone right now

Frank Lampard is in major trouble at Everton right now but the job at Goodison Park is a tough ask for anyone who may succeed him, according to Paul Merson.

And things don’t get much easier for Lampard and the Blues as they face a trip to the Etihad Stadium to play Premier League champions Manchester City on December 31.

Merson has confessed that Everton are a million miles off it at the moment and that Lampard listens to the man in the stands, likely Farhad Moshiri, too much.

Everton

“Frank Lampard is in trouble at Everton but I don’t think there’s a manager out there who would be a success at Goodison at the minute,” said Merson (pg 46 print edition Daily Star).

“Everton don’t have the players, they’re a million miles off. What is success at Everton? They’re just trying to stay up right now.

“He listens to the man in the stand far too much.”

Everton

Starts at the top.

Merson’s words do ring true, it’s hard to see who can come into Everton and sure things up as long as the club is run by Moshiri and Bill Kenwright.

Their poor leadership is starting to trickle down into first-team affairs and it’s killing performances on the pitch and ruining managers’ chances of succeeding.

Everton have the basis of a solid team, with players like Amadou Onana and Jordan Pickford in their ranks and need to do more to get players of the same ilk.

This starts with the owners giving the team funds and not buying ridiculously overpriced players who take up the wage bill and don’t live up to expectations.

This is obviously easier said than done, but more needs to be done to help Lampard out, not all the criticism the team are currently facing lies solely on his shoulders.

Until there is change at the top of the team it’s hard to see much changing anytime soon.
