Everton must take transfer risk on Coventry City forward Viktor Gyokeres

Everton must take a transfer risk on Coventry City forward Viktor Gyokeres after the Blues were linked with making a move for him by talkSPORT.

The Toffees aren’t the only club looking at the talented Sweden international either, with Premier League rivals Brentford and Wolves also eyeing moves.

The Athletic journalist Richard Sutcliffe confessed that Gyokeres was “outstanding” in a game against Sheffield United on 12 March 2022, admitting he led their defence to a merry dance.

“Thought Viktor Gyokeres was outstanding, leading the Sheffield United defence a merry dance,” said Sutcliffe on Twitter.

90min revealed on December 28 that Coventry City would be willing to let their fearsome forward leave the club for £16million, surely this is a transfer risk well within the Blues’ budget to make.

Everton

Risk worth taking.

The 24-year-old is currently the joint top-scorer in the Championship with 12 goals in 21 appearances for the Sky Blues so far this season.

And he isn’t a one-season wonder either, he had an impressive 2021/2022 campaign as well, grabbing 18 goals in 47 outings.

Now, these kinds of stats scream that Everton should make a move, they’re in desperate need of a prolific goalscorer, one that can save their doomed season.

It hasn’t always been plain sailing for the Swede, he did have stints at Brighton, St. Pauli and Swansea where things didn’t completely work out and this is where the risk comes in.

But with the Blues’ financial state leaving them with minimal options in the market, the in-form Championship striker could prove to be a shrewd bit of business.

His overall performances have earned the forward a solid season rating of 7.04/10 from WhoScored, something to get the Toffees’ ears wigged.

At this point, Everton needs something to drastically change and the hopes and dreams of a new forward coming to Goodison Park is the new lease of life that’s desperately needed.
