Frank Lampard and Kevin Thelwell work together for January loan deals for Everton

Frank Lampard and Kevin Thelwell are working together on short-term solutions for Everton in the January transfer window, report iNews.

The Toffees have scored just 12 goals in 16 Premier League games so far this season and sit just one point above the relegation zone heading into this weekend’s clash with Manchester City (31 December).

It’s been accepted at Goodison Park that new faces are needed in the window and goals are the main thing missing from the squad, and the director of football and club hierarchy are working on loan deals that are “months in the making”.

Everton

“Under-pressure Frank Lampard retains the backing of Everton’s hierarchy, who are working on January loan moves that are months in the making to help solve the team’s chronic lack of goals,” they wrote (30 December).

“Lampard is working closely with director of football Kevin Thelwell on short-term solutions to ensure the team aren’t dragged deeper into the sort of trouble that they only narrowly escaped from last season.”

Backing?

While the message from the club publicly has been that they’re backing Lampard and they want to be with him long-term, the fact that a replacement has already seemingly been lined up and the club aren’t looking to spend more money on the squad surely doesn’t leave him in good standing.

Lampard spent big in the summer and the performances were initially good despite results, but a lack of goals has been a real thorn in the side and that hasn’t been helped by the constant fitness issues of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Everton

It’s going to be nigh on impossible to bring in a player on loan for six months who is a Premier League calibre striker that can go straight into the team and start scoring goals.

So if they’re unable to do that, things are unlikely to change and that surely means Lampard won’t be hanging around for too long.

It’s positive that they’re working on deals and have been for months, but if a new striker doesn’t come in and hit the ground running then you can probably mark this as the beginning of the end of for Frank at Everton.
