Anthony Elanga ‘prime target’ for Everton with Frank Lampard ‘desperate’ for January transfers

Frank Lampard has identified Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga as his main January target at Everton, according to The Telegraph.

The Toffees have supposedly made the Swedish speedster their “prime target” for the winter window as they look to make the necessary attacking additions to turn their fortunes around.

Unfortunately for Lampard, he will have to wait until the Red Devils have sorted out a replacement for the 20-year-old who came off the bench in their 1-0 win away at Wolves on New Year’s Eve.

Everton

United want to sign a replacement rather than promote from within which could leave Everton waiting for much of the window which is not ideal for Lampard.

Despite playing in most matches this season, Elanga has not yet scored for Manchester United in the 2022/23 campaign with his last Premier League goal coming against Leeds United in February.

Too similar

If Lampard really wants Everton to sign a proper goalscorer, then he needs to divert their attention away from Elanga whose track record proves that he is not the answer to the question.

Everton already have Anthony Gordon, Demarai Gray and Dwight McNeil who score similar amounts of goals to the Swedish international and making another January loan move would not necessarily be beneficial for them.

Everton

Donny van de Beek proved last year that loaning from Manchester United is not always the best solution to a problem and they have to learn from that mistake.

They would be far better off trying to sign an out-and-out striker either permanently or on loan in January to cover for Dominic Calvert-Lewin who can’t seem to stay fit for a prolonged period.

Money could well be tight in the winter at Goodison Park so more now than ever, the signings made have to be the right ones for the club.
