Everton should thank Jordan Pickford if he wants transfer to Champions League club

Everton must do everything to keep Jordan Pickford happy at the club if the Toffees manage to avoid relegation this season, according to journalist Daniel Storey.

Writing for iNews (2 January), Storey suggests that Pickford is the “only reason” why the Toffees are still not in the drop zone, and if the England goalkeeper wants to join a Champions League club next summer, the fans should thank him for his service.

The Daily Mail reported on 27 December that Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham are all considering a move for the 28-year-old goalkeeper.

Everton

“This is hardly a hot-take opinion, but if Everton do indeed stay up this season, and if Frank Lampard keeps his job in the process, everyone involved should do everything they can to thank Jordan Pickford and keep him happy,” wrote Storey for INews.

“And if Pickford does want a move to a Champions League club, Everton supporters should thank him warmly for his service. The only reason they are still above water is him.”

Spot on

Pickford has been simply outstanding for the Toffees in the past couple of seasons.

He was one of the main reasons why the Toffees avoided the drop last season, and he has maintained the same level of performance for both club and country so far.

While the likes of Conor Coady and James Tarkowski have added tremendous depth at the back, it is Pickford’s heroics that has come to the rescue on a regular basis.

Everton

The Toffees are already planning to keep the star player on a long-term deal. Sky Sports journalist, Vinny O’Connor reported (1 January) that the Merseyside club are looking to agree new contracts with Pickford, Alex Iwobi, and Anthony Gordon, and talks have been progressing really well.

Of course, Pickford may need to see progress as well. He would love to experience Champions League football as well, so he needs a bit of convincing as well.

Everton should be looking to get back to winning ways when they face Brighton at Goodison Park on 3 January.
