Journalist questions strange behaviour of Everton maestro Abdoulaye Doucouré v Manchester City

Liverpool Echo journalist Joe Thomas has questioned the “really strange” behaviour of Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure during the Blues’ clash v Manchester City.

The maestro was reportedly seen sitting on the ball for 10-15 minutes looking less than bothered with the Everton game in front of him.

It comes after exit speculation continued, although Fulham are currently deterred by his £120,000-a-week wages at Goodison Park [Evening Standard].

“Was a really strange sight that wasn’t it James,” replied Thomas to the concerned fan on Twitter.

“Hadn’t realised he did it that long. Spoke to him in the summer and he was so passionate about the club and staying here.”

Nearing the end?

Is Doucoure nearing the end of his time at Goodison Park? It seems he just might be if his latest ball-sitting stunt is anything to go by.

The midfielder has fallen down the pecking order massively since Frank Lampard took over the reigns, largely down to his own injury problems.

Amadou Onana, Idrissa Gana Gueye and Alex Iwobi are all preferred options now for Lampard in his engine room and there is little room for Doucoure to make an impact.

Nevertheless, he may get a tiny opportunity to do just that when the Blues face Brighton on January 3, with Onana out of the game due to suspension.

If there was ever a time to step up and prove you still want to play for the club, it could be now for Doucoure.

Whether Lampard gives the Frenchman one last shot remains to be seen, but it will likely be a toss-up between him and Tom Davies for a starting role.
