Everton to sack Frank Lampard as verdict shared by journalist in 4-1 defeat v Brighton

Richard Buxton cannot see Frank Lampard staying in a job at Everton as Brighton won 4-1 at Goodison Park on Tuesday night.

Everton now have just one win in their last 10 Premier League matches and due to the heavy defeat to Brighton, the Toffees are in danger of dropping into the relegation zone by the end of play on Wednesday.

Lampard has found himself under pressure since before the World Cup break but it now look as though it’s reaching breaking point for the former Derby and Chelsea boss, who Buxton believes will be sacked by the board at Goodison.

Everton

Writing via his personal Twitter account on 3 January, the freelance journalist simply said: “Lampard can’t possibly survive this.”

In another tweet, he added: “Conceding three goals in seven minutes, no matter who you’re facing, is catastrophically bad management.

“If Lampard’s still in a job by this time tomorrow, it’ll be nothing short of a miracle or sheer incompetence, depending on your perspective”

Lampard out

Everton should never have hired Lampard.

He didn’t do the best of jobs at Derby and Chelsea and the fact he was the preferred candidate to replace Rafa Benitez last year says it all about the board’s nonsensical approach to major decisions.

Farhad Moshiri and Bill Kenwright can never seem to agree upon who to hire as the manager so what on earth is the point of the pair of them working together behind the scenes at Goodison?

You have one man who’s absolutely hopeless with football, doesn’t know the first thing about it and has to rely on third parties to help him make his rubbish decisions.

And then you have another who’s a dinosaur of the game and lost his touch years ago.

While Kenwright still knows way more about the game than Moshiri, it doesn’t mean his decision-making is any better.

It does make you wonder whether Vitor Pereira would’ve done any better than this.

Lampard was lucky to keep us up last season but luck doesn’t last long in the Premier League when you’re totally out of your depth.

It’s time for him to go.
