Frank Lampard still has ‘full backing’ of Everton board despite struggles – journalist

Frank Lampard still has the “full backing” of Farhad Moshiri and the Everton board, with no votes of confidence happening yet, Simon Phillips understands.

The Toffees have won just one game in their last ten in the Premier League and lingering just a point above the relegation zone as the season approaches its halfway stage.

Saturday’s (31 December) 1-1 draw against Manchester City was a positive sign following the demoralising defeat to Wolves on Boxing Day, and with Brighton, Southampton and West Ham next up in the league – Lampard will hope for a turnaround in fortunes.

Journalist Phillips admitted that although the Everton board have not publicly backed the Englishman, his position at the helm has never been in doubt with the hierarchy.

He told GiveMeSport: “I haven’t heard of any votes of confidence yet for Lampard, but he’s always had the full backing of the Everton board, and he still has that at the moment.

“You mentioned the fans’ discontent, and that’s obviously going to happen when they’re not getting results, but the fans have largely been behind Lampard. The players have been behind Lampard, and they still are as far as I’m aware.”

Needs backing

The coming month could well prove a season definer for the Merseyside club, with the opportunity to bring fresh faces into the club matched with a favourable run of fixtures in the league.

Goodison Park needs to be at its loudest for the upcoming clash against Brighton before Lampard faces relegation rivals West Ham and Southampton in the subsequent two fixtures.

A new striker should be the primary target this winter, as the Toffees’ lack of potency in front of goal has plagued their last 18 months – partly due to the never-ending list of injuries talisman Dominic Calvert-Lewin picks up.

If Lampard can keep the centre-forward fit through this crucial run of fixtures, Everton may just see themselves squeeze out of danger and slowly move away from the drop zone.

It’s not going to be plain sailing, however, and Moshiri and Bill Kenwright should prepare themselves for a bumpy ride along the way.
