Alan Shearer bemoans behind-the-scenes operations at Everton

Alan Shearer has lashed out at how Everton have been run over the past few years under the reign of Farhad Moshiri.

On learning that the Toffees had spent more than Liverpool on transfers, but still find themselves so far adrift from their local rivals, the former Newcastle striker was far from impressed.

Having seen them getting humiliated 4-1 at home against Brighton, Shearer called for major changes at the club and not just in the manager’s office.

Shearer said on Premier League Productions (3 January, 22:17), “It’s a tough football club. Whoever goes there is going to be tough. The other people at the club need to take responsibility. It’s a tough way back for Frank. It’ll be a mess until something changes. Who thinks it was a good idea to spend ridiculous amounts on bang average players? I don’t think it’s too harsh a word to say they wasted money.”

Spot on

The Premier League legend is absolutely right.

Everton have been awfully run and it’s not been the case of the owner not spending the money but where it’s been spent.

Clubs that have spent less than half of what the Toffees have done have achieved more success in a relatively shorter timeframe.

Moshiri and Bill Kenwright both need to be shown the door along with a number of people in the boardroom.

Fresh ideas are needed as the club is going into a new era with a new stadium and the same minds cannot come up with different solutions.

It’s not that hard to appoint the right people and it’s important that they do not mess this up again as the effects could be devastating.

The club will make the simple call and decide to part ways with Frank Lampard rather than looking inward and pointing the finger at themselves.
