Ian Wright slams Everton player Idrissa Gueye after footage emerges from Brighton defeat
Ian Wright has savaged Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye for giving the ball away that led to a Brighton goal.
The Toffees were chasing the game at Goodison Park and had a chance to get back into it with a free kick.
However, Gueye made a howler of it which saw the visitors put the ball into the back of the net and eventually they ended up winning 4-1.
Wright said on Premier League Productions (3 January, 22:17), “It looks like a team that are struggling to do what their manager wants them to do. This is just poor play from Idrissa Gueye. You look at him and do worry for him. Not acceptable play.”
Amateur-esque
We do not see this kind of play in the lower divisions of the professional game either and it’s absolutely unacceptable at the highest level.
With the Toffees chasing the game and it being an attacking set play, the last thing they would’ve wanted was for their player to gift a goal scoring chance to the opponents.
Brighton are a very organised side and will punish you if you give them gifts like that and that’s precisely what they did.

Signing Gueye in the first place was a bad decision given his age and his performances have done little to vindicate that decision.
Unfortunately, it is Frank Lampard who will live and die by these individual errors but it’s on the players to be more accountable and stop messing up this way.
The only way is down for Everton if such things continue and we do not know who or what can help them avoid the drop.
