Kaveh Solhekol: Everton linked with Chuba Akpom as Middlesbrough release news emerges

Everton are one of the clubs being linked with a move for Middlesbrough forward Chuba Akpom in the January window, according to journalist Kaveh Solhekol.

The Sky Sports journalist said that the Toffees are in the hunt to sign the 27-year-old who is the current top scorer in the Championship this season.

He was almost released last summer by Boro, but his remarkable form has caught the attention of several clubs including the Toffees.

“Everton one of the clubs being linked with a move for the Championship top scorer Chuba Akpom,” said Solhekol on Sky Sports.

“He scored 13 times for Middlesbrough this season. He was almost released last summer.”

Good move?

The former Arsenal player has played for a lot of Championship clubs in his career and spent time in Greece as well.

He has been in tremendous form this season, netting 13 goals for the club in the Championship.

Akpom is a versatile attacker who can play as a striker or as an attacking central midfielder and in theory, should be a smart addition for the Toffees.

However, there’s no guarantee that players from the Championship will come and make an instant impact in the Premier League, but it’s definitely worth a try.

Everton

The Toffees badly need to sign a new striker in the January window, despite the fact that Dominic Calvert-Lewin has returned to full fitness.

Neil Maupay has been very poor since joining the club from Brighton last summer, and the club need more firepower in the forward department.

Everton once again are fighting for survival, and they are perilously close to the relegation zone after suffering 4-1 defeat against Brighton on Tuesday (3 January).
