Sean Dyche favourite to be next Everton manager amid Frank Lampard update on Thursday

Sean Dyche is the favourite to take the Everton job as the pressure on Frank Lampard grows after the Toffees’ 4-1 defeat to Brighton, according to the Daily Mail’s Dominic King.

The under-fire boss is set to take media duties on Thursday (5 January) ahead of Everton’s FA Cup tie against Manchester United at Old Trafford (Sky Sports, 4 January).

However, it appears the board are looking for potential replacements, with King suggesting (Daily Mail, 4 January) the former Burnley manager is the favourite for the job, after previously being lined up for the role in 2017.

A chance

Dyche would certainly give Everton a chance of retaining their Premier League status. The 51-year-old continually worked wonders with Burnley on a lesser budget and knows exactly how to keep a team in the top flight. In fact, if Burnley had kept him at the club, there’s a good chance they would’ve stayed up.

At the moment, things are going from bad to worse for Lampard and it’s hard to envisage the 44-year-old being able to turn things around at Goodison Park. The defeat to Brighton demonstrated a lack of quality, tactics and endeavour from all involved.

There are other deeper-lying problems at the club, but the former Chelsea manager cannot escape criticism after changing his tactics after the excellent point against Manchester City. However, it’s abundantly obvious that Everton’s poor form is not purely down to Lampard.

At present, some of the best managers in Europe would struggle to get a tune out of this group of players. These are worrying times on the blue side of Stanley Park.
