Wayne Rooney stance on Everton job emerges as Frank Lampard fights for future
Wayne Rooney would reportedly be keen on taking over the Everton helm from Frank Lampard should he be shown the door.
The Toffees suffered a heavy defeat against Brighton by a 4-1 scoreline and that added pressure on the manager.
According to the Daily Express [4 January], Rooney is a leading contender to take over if Lampard is sacked by Farhad Moshiri.

Interesting one
Even though Rooney got relegated at Derby County, he was hamstrung by the club’s woeful management and there was nothing he could do with the points deduction.
He left in order to join DC United with his stock higher than ever and a move to Goodison Park may be too good to turn down for him.
Anyone who’s worked with and under him and has had nothing but nice things to say and he’s a boyhood Evertonian and will know what it feels to be a part of this club.
David Moyes too is a huge admirer of the former Toffees striker and said in 2021, “He’s going into a different world now completely and while not all the best players have gone on to be the best managers, Wayne’s love of the game and his drive and attitude will give him every chance of being successful.”
He would also play football the right way and help promote more young players to the first team so that’s only a positive.
However, his lack of managerial experience at the top level is something that Everton may consider and it remains to be seen what sort of option they end up going for.
