Roberto Martinez still has Everton ‘admirers’ amid Frank Lampard sack speculation
Roberto Martinez continues to have “admirers” at Everton as Frank Lampard’s future remains in doubt, according to The Daily Mail’s Dominic King.
The Guardian suggested (3 January) that the 44-year-old was on the brink of losing his job after the Toffees’ 4-1 home defeat to Brighton.
King has since revealed (Daily Mail, 4 January) that the former Belgium boss still has the backing of certain individuals at Goodison Park, despite Sean Dyche being the favourite to take over from Lampard.

Matter of time
It feels like it’s only a matter of time before Lampard is relieved of his duties after a poor run of results. His decision to change formation against Brighton was ill-thought-out considering the Toffees picked up an impressive point against Manchester City in their last fixture.
He should have adopted a more defensive formation and given Brighton the respect which they certainly deserve. There have been a number of questionable decisions from the Everton boss, but he cannot be solely to blame for the demise the Toffees are currently in. The board have been completely incompetent in recent years and the fact they still admire Martinez, should be a big worry for the fans.

Dyche would be the obvious choice for the club, with the former Burnley manager having a track record of avoiding relegation. The 51-year-old would certainly adopt a more conservative style of play, which could suit what Everton need at this moment in time.
The next couple of weeks could see plenty of change on the blue side of Stanley Park.
