Ipswich make permanent Nathan Broadhead bid as Everton announce Wigan recall

Ipswich Town have made a permanent bid to sign Everton forward Nathan Broadhead who has just returned to the club, Paul Joyce reports.

The Toffees announced on Friday afternoon (6 January) that the 24-year-old had been recalled from his loan at Wigan Athletic, where he scored five Championship goals in 22 appearances.

But it appears he may be set for an immediate turnaround with League One promotion candidates Ipswich after a permanent deal for the Welshman.

Times journalist Joyce wrote on Twitter Friday: “Everton have recalled Nathan Broadhead from a loan spell at Wigan Athletic. Ipswich Town have made a permanent bid to sign the striker.”

Sensible

As much as Everton need help in attack it seems very unlikely that Broadhead is the man to provide it at this stage so a permanent exit makes sense for all sides.

At 24 he has made just two senior appearances for the Toffees so the chances that he develops into a first-team regular are slim.

He proved he can be a success in the third tier during a loan spell at promoted Sunderland last season, scoring 13 times in all competitions for the Black Cats.

And while his spell with Wigan was a modest success, if there is a proper resolution to his future and a fee on offer to the club then it is the right option to take.

He is likely to have a decent say in Ipswich’s attempts to make it into the Championship and he can commit himself fully to the cause at the club should this deal go through, and there is surely a high chance that it does if his loan has been terminated early.

It isn’t the striker move that fans wanted to hear about this month with the club’s fortunes looking bleak, and they will hope that there is a far more significant one on the horizon.
