£5m compensation update emerges as David Moyes now ‘dark horse’ for Everton job amid Bill Kenwright stance

David Moyes is a “dark horse” among the contenders to be the next Everton manager amid rising pressure on Frank Lampard, according to Alan Nixon.

The newspaper journalist wrote on his Patreon page on Sunday (8 January) that ex-Blues boss Moyes, 59, is “loved by former chairman Bill Kenwright”, who hired the Scot at Goodison over 20 years ago.

However it is understood that as Moyes is under contract at West Ham, it’ll cost a £5million compensation fee to convince the Hammers into allowing their manager to talk to a relegation rival.

Nixon adds that Moyes still “thinks fondly of his time on Merseyside” and that he only rents his home in London so a move back to Merseyside could work out.

Return of Moysey?

There’s a saying in football. “You should never go back.”

Duncan Ferguson and Wayne Rooney have been linked with the potential upcoming vacancy at Goodison Park but that saying doesn’t ring as true for those two as it does for Moyes.

Everton haven’t replicated the success we had under Moyes’ leadership before he left for Manchester United in 2013.

While he didn’t win any silverware, we were still one of the top teams in the Premier League and were at least European regulars.

We weren’t a laughing stock, put it that way.

Everton are now though.

Farhad Moshiri’s senseless leadership of the club alongside the dinosaur that is Kenwright – who clearly cannot move on from the past – has led to an abomination of a squad that’s been mashed together by numerous managers and directors of football.

Frank Lampard was never the answer. Would Moyes be?

He’s done a good job at West Ham but they’re hardly the model Premier League club either right now.
