Alex Iwobi sends five-word message after Everton injury blow
Everton star Alex Iwobi has sent a social media message to supporters after suffering an injury in the FA Cup third-round defeat to Manchester United.
The former Arsenal midfielder was left in a worrying state following a challenge with United defender Tyrell Malacia early in the second half of the Toffees’ 3-1 loss [6 January], undergoing a prolonged period of treatment before being taken off on a stretcher.
The Nigerian international has been a key figure in Frank Lampard’s side this season, experiencing a stunning transformation in a new role at the heart of Everton’s midfield, and the 26-year-old is set to undergo a scan [6 January] to determine the damage of the injury and how long he’ll be out for, with initial fears that it could be ligament damage.
Now Iwobi has taken to social media to send a message to the Everton supporters following the setback. In his Twitter post [7 January], the midfielder wrote: “Appreciate the love, back soon”.
Huge Blow
Alex Iwobi’s injury setback is a huge blow to Lampard and the Toffees faithful.
The 58-time Nigeria international has been a deserved mainstay in the former Chelsea player and boss’ side, excelling in a new midfield role and becoming one of their key figures in the final third.

Iwobi’s stark transformation this campaign has seen him register one goal and five assists and has arguably been Lampard’s main source of creativity so far in the Premier League.
How the club look to replace Iwobi’s quality is certainly cause for concern, with the likes of Tom Davies and Abdoulaye Doucoure expected to step up in his absence. Or will a potential long-term absence see Everton dip into the market to find another creative source in midfield?
Nonetheless, Lampard will be hoping and praying the 26-year-old isn’t on the sidelines for too long, as Iwobi still has a huge role to play with the Toffees looking to avoid another needless and nervy relegation battle.
