Rangers manager Michael Beale confirms interest in Everton ace Tom Davies for January transfer

Rangers manager Michael Beale has admitted that he would be interested in signing Tom Davies from Everton in January, but refused to confirm if a deal is close.

The Toffees midfielder has been plagued by injuries during his Goodison Park career so far, and has featured for just 70 minutes combined since the team returned to action after the World Cup.

His lack of playing time and contract situation has seen him linked with a move to Scottish giants Rangers, and after their 2-0 win over Dundee United on Sunday (8 January) manager Beale confirmed that he has spoken to players about moving to Ibrox recently and that he likes Davies as a player.

“No names but I think they are both good players to be fair,” he said, as quoted by Glasgow Times (8 January).

“Todd was an excellent player when he was young and playing against my Liverpool Under 23s.

“I thought he would go on and have a fantastic career. He had that at the start and he is maybe just looking for a move to re-ingite it but I think he is a fantastic player at a good age.

“And Tom Davies, he used to kick my Liverpool Under 23s team all around the place. There’s a bit of John Lundstram about him. But again, two really good players.

“Not confirming anything with those two. But there’s a lot of players we are speaking to at the moment.”

Time to go

This is the perfect time to sell up and get Davies out of the squad, so if an offer comes in we really have to consider taking it.

Everton

Davies’ contract at the club is due to expire in the summer and he’s currently way down the pecking order in the midfield under Frank Lampard.

All of Alex Iwobi, Idrissa Gueye, Amadou Onana, Abdoulaye Doucoure and James Garner are ahead of him when everyone is fit, and with the likelihood being that he will leave for free in the summer, any sort of fee now would be great.

Everton fans won’t be too disappointed to see the back of him as his quality has forever been in question, while his injury record has been simply awful since coming into the first-team picture.

For now though, until there is an offer there isn’t much to talk about, but fingers crossed there is one soon so we can send him on his merry way.
