Aston Villa want to sign Jordan Pickford from Everton, no new deal on the table

Everton have not considered offering Jordan Pickford a new contract while Aston Villa have joined the race to sign him in 2023, say Fichajes.

The Toffees shot-stopper had been believed to be close to signing a new contract at Goodison Park recently, although there has been no confirmation of any new terms being agreed between player and club.

And now according to a report in the Spanish outlet (8 January), there has been no consideration for a new contract for Pickford and Manchester United, Tottenham and Aston Villa are all showing an interest in signing him in 2023.

Everton

“English clubs are following the trail of the Everton goalkeeper,” they wrote. “Although a third party could be added, Aston Villa.

“Emery wants Dibu Martínez out and the Villa managers would be willing to approach their positions with the English goalkeeper.

“He currently has a contract until 2024 and, for the moment, the sports management of the team led by Frank Lampard has not considered offering him a renewal.”

Nonsense

There have been a lot of mixed messages about the future of Jordan Pickford at Everton in recent months, but this report seems to go entirely against the grain.

Lampard recently confirmed that the parties were close to an agreement, while there were reports in the English press that terms had been agreed but nothing formal had been offered since that happened.

Everton

Tottenham’s interest is well documented as they look to replace Hugo Lloris, while Manchester United and even Chelsea could be keen to make a move too, but the Aston Villa news is new and interesting.

If World Cup winner Martinez is to move on from Villa Park, then Pickford would seemingly be a good replacement for them and he could be interested in moving to a more stable club.

Everton know that if they get their recruitment right this month it could keep them in the Premier League, and thus help them to keep Pickford, and that has to be an absolute priority.
