Everton open to offers for Abdoulaye Doucouré but cameo sparks interesting debate

Everton are open to offers for Abdoulaye Doucoure in January but Alex Iwobi’s injury may make the club hesitate in pushing the maestro out of Goodison Park, according to Liverpool Echo journalist Joe Thomas.

Iwobi was stretchered off the pitch at Old Trafford in the Toffees 3-1 loss in the FA Cup and was replaced by Doucoure who played well during his cameo appearance.

Thomas confessed that Everton are “open to offers” for Doucoure but it will be interesting to see what kind of impact Iwobi’s injury will have on the Frenchman’s future.

“Was a really interesting cameo from Doucoure wasn’t it!,” replied Thomas to a fan on his personal Twitter (8 January).

“Interesting to see what impact Iwobi injury has on his future.

“Think Everton open to offers but a difficult middle ground now as will need to at least have a contingency plan in case Iwobi injury has any longer term impact.”

Everton

Keep him.

The Blues shouldn’t be foolish in this one, they need to keep Doucoure at the club this month until the extent of Iwobi’s injury is fully clear.

And to be honest, the Frenchman’s cameo at Old Trafford was terrific, he looked like a real threat whenever he got the ball and covered every blade of grass on the pitch.

More outings like this from Doucoure would be massively welcomed at Goodison Park and the next month will be the perfect opportunity for him to do so.

With Iwobi’s injury estimated to keep him on the sidelines for three weeks, Lampard and the Blues will need Doucoure to step up massively in his absence.

Iwobi has certainly lost a bit of influence on the team as of late, mainly down to the Blues constantly defending for 90 minutes so his absence may be a blessing in disguise.

A must-win clash against Southampton is next for the Toffees on January 14 followed by a trip to the London Stadium to face West Ham United.
