Everton keen to do more to get transfer fees for outgoing academy graduates
Everton are keen to do more to get transfer fees for outgoing academy graduates rather than see them leaving the club for free, according to Liverpool Echo journalist Joe Thomas.
This comes after the club announced the departure of 24-year-old Nathan Broadhead who had risen through the rank of the Blues youth system in a £1m deal to Ipswich.
Thomas stated that Everton are “keen to do more” to prevent losing academy talents for nothing after the Broadhead move to Ipswich.

“Broadhead signed a two year deal with Everton as recently as August,” said Thomas on his personal Twitter account (9 January).
“Club keen to do more to get fees from academy graduates who leave the set up, rather than see them leave when contracts expire.”
Good sale.
Thomas went on to state that the Broadhead deal has likely brought in a seven-figure sum for the Toffees, a decent deal for a player who is nearly 25.
And hopefully, the club do more in the future to get fees for talents they have nurtured and progressed through the academy system in the coming years.

There is nothing worse than seeing players leave who have been at the academy all their lives for simply nothing and it happens far too often in the modern game.
Especially with the big Premier League budgets, a majority of the time it’s tough for youth talents to make any form of breakthrough into first-team action anyway.
With the club’s current tricky financial state, any form of a cash influx coming in would be helpful, no matter how little the fee is.
Selling youth talents for a profit may ultimately be one of the best forms of gaining some cash for future transfers for the Blues and it’s great that this option is being explored.
