Fabrizio Romano: Everton really pushing to sign Manchester United forward Anthony Elanga

Everton are “really pushing” to sign Manchester United forward Anthony Elanga in the January transfer window, after a move failed to materialise last summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Toffees have long been linked with the Swedish ace, especially during the current window with GiveMeSport [1 January] reporting that the club were in contact with the player’s agent.

Elanga has seen his game-time limited under Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, making only seven starts so far this campaign and registering just one assist to his name.

And a major update has emerged regarding the player’s future.

Italian journalist and transfer insider Romano took to The United Stand YouTube channel on Monday [9 January] to confirm that the Toffees still remain interested in recruiting the forward this month.

Asked by host Mark Goldbridge about a possible move for Elanga, Romano revealed: “I think it’s a possibility, Everton already wanted him in the final week of August.

“Everton are still interested, they’re a big fan of him and I think it’s a very good possibility for the player because he was tempted in the summer but Erik ten Hag said ‘no you have to stay here, you’re an important player for us’ – now the feeling is different.

“So, I think this is one they will decide to do in the final days or weeks of the window because Everton are pushing – many clubs are interested in Elanga – but Everton are really pushing.”

Potential Lampard coup

Everton are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements this summer, having just scored 14 Premier League goals in their 18 games so far this campaign.

Lampard’s attack have certainly failed to live up to their billing. Demarai Gray, Anthony Gordon and Dwight McNeil, despite their considerable potential, have lacked the quality and consistency to fire the Merseysiders up the Premier League table. While Dominic Calvert-Lewin has struggled for fitness and summer signing Neal Maupay struggling since his move from Brighton.

Everton Frank Lampard

As a result, the former Chelsea boss isn’t having the best of times at the helm, and the club’s lack of quality in crucial areas of the pitch isn’t helping matters.

However, Lampard does have a keen eye for talent and Elanga could well be a player he moulds into a world-beater if given the time to do so.

The Manchester United ace’s arrival could spark Lampard’s attack back into form which means this deal could represent a major coup for the Toffees’ under-fire boss.

Change is desperately needed at Goodison Park.
