Lorient set £25m asking price for Everton transfer target Terem Moffi

Everton have been told they need to cough up £25m to sign Terem Moffi from Lorient in January, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

The Toffees are in the market for a new striker to bolster their attacking options after scoring just 14 goals in 18 Premier League games this season and finding themselves in the relegation zone.

And Lorient forward Moffi has emerged as a target for the club in the January transfer window, but a report claims the Ligue 1 side will demand £25m to let him leave after scoring 10 goals in 14 appearances this season.

“West Ham have also asked about Lorient’s Terem Moffi but are unable to meet the asking price of around £25m,” they wrote (10 January).

“Southampton have already had a bid rejected for the 23-year-old Moffi, who also has interest from Everton.”

Ouch

Everton have got obvious financial problems right now and forking out £25m on a striker in the middle of the season seems highly unlikely.

But if Frank Lampard has identified Moffi as the man to come in and solve the goalscoring issues we’ve been having, and the board are truly behind Lampard as manager of this club, then it’s a deal they have to do.

Relegation into the Premier League will simply cause bigger problems financially and for the club’s squad next season when we need to invest more to get back up.

If we’re able to bring him in and he can score the goals that keep us in the Premier League then nobody will care about the price tag because it would have been worth it.

The problem is if he comes in and doesn’t do that, we’d be in bigger trouble, but we have to believe in the project and if this is what is supposed to save us then we have to do it, otherwise what is the point?
