Kyle John ‘expected’ to depart Everton on loan, Goodison Park exit talks held
Paul Tait “expected” Kyle John to leave Everton on loan as the Toffees hold talks over a number of temporary exits for their under-21 players, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The Echo report (11 January) the under-21s boss believed John would follow the likes of Lewis Warrington, Lewis Gibson, Lewis Dobbin and Ellis Simms out of Goodison Park in the summer to gain much-needed first-team experience.
Tait has previously revealed (Everton official website, 6 January) there would “definitely” be some of his players heading out on loan in the January window, with internal discussions currently ongoing.

Good call
If a number of Everton’s under-21s head out on loan it will be a good call by the club. There are lots of talented players who are doing the rounds at under-21 level, but unfortunately, it cannot develop players in the same way first-team football does.
Moving out on loan to an EFL club can be invaluable for any young player and it can be a good indication of whether they will be able to make the cut in the Premier League. Considering the Toffees’ perilous situation at the moment, it’s unlikely they will look to give any of their under-21s first-team chances in the second half of the season.

It seems like a strange call for the club to call back Simms from his loan spell at Sunderland. Unless Frank Lampard has any immediate plans to throw the youngster into the mix, the decision doesn’t quite make sense. As for John, he will be eager to feature more regularly in the second half of the season, ideally at an EFL club.
He signed a new deal in October until 2024 and faces an important 18 months to show he’s capable of making an impact on Merseyside in the future.
