Rob Dorsett delivers Everton transfer ‘truth’ amid ‘significant’ financial issues
Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett has suggested Everton will have to sell players if they’re to match Frank Lampard’s transfer wishlist.
According to Spanish media outlet Cadena Ser (10 January), Everton are looking to land Villarreal attacker Arnaut Danjuma, with the Toffees “desperate” to finalise a deal.
However, Dorsett has claimed there may have to be a departure or two before any player arrives at Goodison Park in the coming weeks.

“It’s not quite as straightforward as that [letting players go] but Everton do have some significant financial problems,” said Dorsett (Sky Sports News, 10 January).
“They’ve been one of the biggest spenders in the Premier League since Farhad Moshiri bought the club. They’ve spent half a billion, £500million, that’s £80million a year.
“They’re not going to get anywhere near that in this window and the truth is, if they want to match Frank Lampard’s wishlist in terms of targets, they’re going to have to sell.”
Harsh reality
It’s been a slow start to the January window for Everton and it feels very similar to the summer when the Toffees took a long time to get up and running. Sadly, the January window will not allow them the same time to dwell, with the month now over a third of the way through.
The board simply have to act if they want to relieve any relegation fears come the end of the season. Everton are dreadfully short in attacking areas at the moment and desperately need one or two reinforcements this month.

Lampard will take some of the blame for the poor form and the match against Southampton at Goodison Park is looking like a make-or-break fixture for the former Chelsea boss.
With West Ham facing off against Wolves, it promises to be an intriguing weekend in the battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League. If Lampard does revive his career at Goodison Park, the fixture against Saints could be a turning point.
