Alex Crook shares Leighton Baines caretaker claim amid Frank Lampard Everton sack talk
TalkSPORT reporter Alex Crook has claimed Leighton Baines has been lined up to replace Frank Lampard should the Everton boss be sacked.
The Telegraph reported (4 January) that Lampard was “on the brink” of being sacked after his side suffered a dismal 4-1 home defeat to Brighton.
However, the board are yet to act and Crook has suggested under-18s manager Baines has been asked to step in should the 44-year-old be relieved of his duties.

“I think Lampard probably is under more pressure than Nathan Jones. Obviously, he’s still there,” Crook told GIVEMESPORT (11 January).
“I was hearing whispers that Leighton Baines has been asked to step up as caretaker manager, should they part company with Lampard, so that’s an interesting one.”
No plan
Whoever is in charge at Goodison Park will still face the same problems Lampard is currently enduring. This squad is littered with underperforming players who are nowhere near the standard required to compete in the Premier League.
The board and Farhad Moshiri have to take responsibility for the Toffees’ current demise and changing the manager won’t fix all of the club’s problems. It appears to be a never-ending cycle of underperforming and overpaid players being signed for extortionate transfer fees.

Until there’s a significant change in the boardroom, it’s unlikely the club will improve on the pitch. Baines has minimal managerial experience and to think he would be able to steer the club to safety is a ridiculous thought.
There’s also been little movement in the transfer market to improve the squad to really give Everton the best chance of escaping relegation to the Championship for a second consecutive year.
It’s concerning times at Goodison Park at present.
