Everton want to sign Atletico Madrid defender Felipe with four Goodison exits on the cards

Everton are looking to sign Atletico Madrid central defender Felipe however the Toffees may need to sell first to fund a move, according to the Daily Mail.

It’s understood Abdoulaye Doucoure, Michael Keane, Mason Holgate and Yerry Mina could all depart the club to generate funds at Goodison Park (Daily Mail, pg 72, 13 January).

Felipe, 33, is understood to be on the club’s radar along with Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga. Everton have “firmed up” their offer for Elanga after holding talks with his agent earlier in the month (Simon Phillips, GIVEMESPORT, 1 January).

Never learn

Whenever we think Everton may be turning a corner in the transfer market a rumour like this comes out of nowhere. A 33-year-old Brazilian defender who is currently in the latter stages of his career is not a move the Toffees should be going anywhere near.

If he did make the move to Goodison Park it’s likely he would also command high wages and offer the club absolutely no sell-on value. Furthermore, Frank Lampard has seemed fairly content with his central defensive options. Conor Coady and James Tarkowski have been solid additions and there are still the likes of Ben Godfrey and Mason Holgate who can deputise.

Everton

Potentially a younger player could arrive at the club to act as cover for Everton in the second half of the campaign and also provide the club with a prospect for the future. If Holgate, Keane and Mina do depart, another central defender will become a priority for the Everton boss.
