Leon Osman slams Idrissa Gueye in Everton Premier League clash v Southampton

Leon Osman has slammed Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye for nearly giving a goal away to Southampton in the Premier League.

Just a little over the half hour mark, Gueye spent too much time on the ball and that led to a turnover which nearly saw the Saints breaking the deadlock.

Osman deemed this as not good enough and the Toffees appeared to pick themselves up after it as they opened the scoring through Amadou Onana.

Speaking on the Premier League’s world feed, Osman said at 15:37, “Gueye dawdled on the ball. It’s not good. Gave away a chance to Southampton. Not a moment has been given in the middle of the park.”

Needs to improve

Everton have been decent all half but they’ve failed to dominate proceedings in midfield and the same can be said about Southampton.

Both teams have made some needless errors in the middle of the park and Frank Lampard will surely have a talking-to with Gueye at the break.

Given how good Onana has been, Gueye has clearly not been up to the mark and a change could be on the cards in the second half.

Hopefully, the Toffees manage to control proceedings better in the second period but there does seem to be a change in attitude for this game.

The players appear to be fighting for their lives to safe Lampard’s job and the crowd has also been behind the team completely.

Given everything that happened ahead of kick-off, it’s really encouraging to see the Everton players giving it their all here.
