talkSPORT host cuts off call over Everton boss Frank Lampard for Manchester United shout
Andy Goldstein was so outraged at a caller who suggested Everton boss Frank Lampard for the Manchester United job he cut him off live on talkSPORT.
The presenter was taking a call from a fellow United fan who claimed he was unhappy with Erik ten Hag, before suggesting the under fire Toffees boss would be preferable.
Darren Bent and Goldstein couldn’t believe what they were hearing, and after refusing to accept that the caller was a genuine supporter of the Manchester club ended the conversation half way through.
Speaking live on talkSPORT on Friday (13 January), Bent reacted to the doubts over the Dutch manager, saying: “You’re not a United fan. You can’t be.”
When the caller insisted that he was and that he would prefer the Toffees boss in charge Goldstein jumped in: “No shut up, shut up. Usually I’d cut you off because you’ve confirmed you’re not a Man United fan by saying, ‘What has Ten Hag won? I’d have Lampard’.
“That makes no sense whatsoever. But because it’s Friday I’m going to give you a little more air time.”
The caller started his pitch for Lampard, saying he was a Champions League winner, but Goldstein quickly cut him off: “Actually I lied, I can’t be bothered with this. That’s ridiculous.”

Not many Everton fans would even back this idea at the moment, with the club sinking rapidly in the Premier League and Manchester United in the top four.
Lampard has had the backing of the Toffees faithful in a big way during his year in charge, but even they are starting to have doubts that he is the man to keep them in the top flight a second time.
The season started reasonably well considering the glaring hole in attack with Richarlison sold and Dominic Calvert-Lewin injured.

The defence at least looked strong and the midfield seemed to be a unit that could develop into something formidable, but the form has dropped off a cliff either side of the World Cup break.
Lampard has plenty of mitigating factors, and a huge slice of the blame for the current situation goes to the board, but a fair proportion of the fanbase would bite your hand off for Ten Hag to have a crack at things currently.
As it is, there surely isn’t a manager of the same ability who is currently available and willing to come in at Everton, so there is an argument that to change again would repeat the same issue that got the club to this point.
But a defeat in the relegation six-pointer against Southampton would put Lampard under huge pressure, despite the public backing from Farhad Moshiri on Thursday (12 January).
