Wayne Rooney speaks out on replacing Frank Lampard as Everton boss
Wayne Rooney has broken his silence after being linked with replacing Frank Lampard as Everton boss, saying it would be “unfair” of him to speak about the role.
The Toffees legend was linked with the job last year while he was at Derby before revealing that he turned down talks with the club out of loyalty, before they were relegated and he moved on to DC United in the MLS.
But with Lampard under pressure for his job now following one win in 12 games, Rooney has been linked with the post once again and has now broken his silence about a potential return to Goodison Park in the dugout.

“It was the same last time when Benitez left the club but I think it would be very unfair for me to speak about Everton,” Rooney said while speaking to The Telegraph (13 January).
“Obviously Frank Lampard is the manager, Moshiri has come out backing him. Frank’s a former team-mate of mine so it would be very unfair if I start speaking about Everton and that role, because Frank is very much still the manager.”
Answer?
When Rooney got linked with the post this time last year, his Derby side were doing really well despite the extraordinary circumstances they were facing and they ended up only getting relegated because of the points deductions due to their financial situation.
Since going to the MLS though Rooney has really struggled to continue that run as a manager, although he did join midway through their season.

Lampard on the other hand has had great moments as Everton boss, most notably saving us from relegation, but it’s still far from clear whether or not he is the right man to take us forward in the future.
But if Lampard does go, nobody can be sure that Rooney is the right man either and it’s probably best that he continues in the USA for now until he’s proven himself a bit more.
Should the club choose to cut their losses with Lampard, we will need someone proven to come in and steady the ship again. Rooney would be a gamble we simply can’t afford right now.
