Everton shareholder Mike Parry responds after Wayne Rooney manager suggestion

Everton shareholder Mike Parry has reacted after he was criticised for suggesting Wayne Rooney should be the man to replace Frank Lampard at Goodison Park.

The outspoken Evertonian called for the former Manchester United striker to take the job after Lampard’s side suffered a damaging 2-1 home defeat to Southampton.

However, Parry received plenty of criticism on Twitter and has since responded suggesting there may not be a better option.

“Lots of you have hammered me for my plea to consider recruiting Wayne Rooney to be next Everton boss,” said Parry (via Twitter, 15 January).

“Fair enough. I can take the harsh stuff. But quite honestly has anybody got a better plan? We’re on a downward spiral to relegation. Something’s got to be done.”

Change

Something has got to change at Goodison Park. Lampard, the board, the players and the fans all have issues at present.

The former Chelsea manager is certainly on thin ice and could well have done more to get a better tune out of this group of players. His formation choices have been perplexing at times and he’s probably not done enough to keep his job on Merseyside.

Everton

Southampton’s victory over the Toffees marked a dark day for Everton and with supporters making their feelings heard after the game. The board certainly need to shoulder a lot of the blame for their mismanagement in recent years.

However, Rooney returning to Goodison Park at the moment may not have too much of an impact. The Toffees need an experienced manager who knows how to get out of a relegation dogfight. The obvious choice would be Sean Dyche. The former Burnley manager has experience keeping the Clarets in the Premier League and could well be the man to save the Toffees.
